Those Darlins is a wily trio of Southern ladies, all of whom have taken the surname Darlin (as in Nikki Darlin, Jessi Darlin and Kelley Darlin) and a boy drummer named Linwood Regensburg, who all met at the Southern Girls Rock & Roll Camp in Tennessee. Since then they've created an infectious eponymous alt-country album and now, with "Screws Get Loose," have veered into a less-country, more indie rock sound. But don't worry. As Jessi Darlin told
Rolling Stone magazine, "If you're a rock & roll fan, you might not like country. But if you're a country fan, you're gonna like rock & roll." I'm not much of a country fan, but even I can't deny that these Darlins have an unhinged, whiskey-swigging sound that makes me incredibly excited to go see them next Saturday at
Point Ephémère.
